Melbourne-based lighting designer Volker Haug takes industrial design down the sustainability route with his upcycled lighting designs, with a design ethos of wherever possible to recycle, reuse and renew. This philosophy is embraced in all aspects of his business, from recycling as many waste materials as possible to offering clients a service to recycle their used light bulbs.
His recent works including the Antler and Rudolf ranges, and the vivid Cable Jewellery, were taken to another level with the release of the Sleeping Beauty and Wow collections earlier in 2012. With these he has put a twist on the classic oversized industrial shade, using neon bright colours and edgy stencil designs.
And not confined by pendants and bulbs, Haug’s awesome Fire Trees are colourful candelabras made of aluminium tubing that allow the user to play and mould them in different variations of shape and form – a great contrast between the hard edge industrial influence vs the ‘prettiness’ of candles.
