UK designer Tom Dixon remains one of the best of the modern design world, not least because his products are so accessible to the average design lover. Every single piece that he has ever released has been highly covetable in our humble opinion. His ‘Beat‘ lights are one of our favourite lighting designs, ever. And his latest creations is no less impressive. Lights made out of stone, made to look like metal, and an eclectic collection of accessories and random collectables. Thank you, Mr Dixon. You always keep us interested!
Particularly impressive are the Lustre lights, handmade from stoneware in a Dutch family-run factory established over five generations. And using Dixon’s exploration into metallic finishes, the lights all feature an iridescent sheen that results in a striking colour change reminiscent of peacock feathers. The effect is quite the combination of hard and soft. No two shades look the same, so every piece is totally unique.
Branching out into a collection of everyday home accessories, giftware and design objects – a first for the prolific designer – is a welcome addition for his fans. Collect them, gift them, covet them. He has called it Eclectic by Tom Dixon, and the name references the mix of materials, including copper, marble, cast iron and wood. There’s a very British aspect to the designs, with that slightly quirky twist we so love.
