The Gently Unfurling Sneak is the work of Melbourne artist-designer Anika Cook, who started the business in 2006 after discovering that her Creative Arts degree rendered her completely unqualified for actual jobs (her words, not ours!).
Well, no one need get a “proper job” when you’ve got the skills of Anika – we were first of all attracted to the quirkiness and quiet absurdness of her illustrations, canvas art and prints (check them out at her online store!). But then we discovered that she also creates a super cool range of printed clothing and accessories, all made in Australia using the finest natural fibres. Together, her world of art and design is based on using clever materials like sustainably grown bamboo, and, as Anika playfully adds “occasionally the back of an apple box that was found down the road”. We like her style!
Her latest clothing collection is Third Wave, using digitally printed chiffon, soft and wonderful cotton linen, and organic cotton with prints and colours inspired by “the froth and bubble of oceans and clouds, of sun and moon, stars and planets, with some very good-looking buildings and mysterious creatures thrown in for good measure”. See, told you the girl has a unique view of beauty. Love.
