Straight up, we love the work of Byron Bay artist Jai Vasicek. Not only is he an exceedingly talented painter and a prolific designer, he’s also totally adorable! Jai’s popular wall art tiles and large scale murals first caught our attention last year when he opened his awesome little shop of treasures, Ahoy Trader, in Byron Bay. And many of his pieces, including an oversized tiled Frida Kahlo cross, hang on walls of Design Pilgrim HQ. So we are chuffed to see him morphing these into new shapes and styles, like the new porthole tiles that feature all of his bright colours, exotic prints, splashes and pattern. And after his recent collaboration with photographer Sybil Steele, the porthole collections now also include photographic imagery with bohemian babes gracing them. They look amazing when hung on their own or in groups of different prints, and you can mix it up and combine them with the rectangular or square wall tiles for major visual impact.
And as part of an up coming exhibition of Jai’s tiles, murals and a selection of his beautiful paintings at Melbourne’s Fenton & Fenton in late October, he’s created 250 of his very cool little crosses, embellished with feathers, tassels and shells … we absolutely crave them. Although you can already purchase his original crosses in store and online, these feathered delights are strictly limited edition, a little bit special and, so far, not available to buy. We’re hoping they eventually make their way from the exhibition to Ahoy Trader (hint, hint Jai!).
