Whimsical, enchanted, exotic, seductive … the work of well renowned Melbourne based artist Gavin Brown has certainly cast a spell over us. His recently released collection of prints is titled Running with Scissors, receiving much attention at the opening of his exhibition held at Rtist Gallery in Melbourne’s Prahran.
Brown is a master of all trades: film, fashion art & design, with painting as his main focus. His work is constantly evolving and he is forever refining it, with collage a main focus and inspiration coming from advertising and popular culture media – a kaleidoscope of shape and colour, where his imagination creates a world made up of paint, paste and paper that reveal the figurative characters within.
The 20 pieces from ‘Running with Scissors’ are surprisingly accessible at only $650 each for unframed, and $850 with frames. Frames are custom made by Greg Von Menge. And with only 24 copies of each print, and selling fast, the pieces are in high demand.
Rtist Gallery’s Managing Director, Sarah Jane Muscat was thrilled to host the highly anticipated event being the first time in 15 years that Brown has produced prints.
“This is a chance for those who would not normally be able to afford their own Gavin Brown oil painting, people like me who appreciate art, style and the amazing people behind it”.
